Wild Coast, Elredd, Broken Rudder, night.
Meanwhile back in the common room on the ground floor the rest of the party appear to have the combat well in hand when enemy re enforcements rush down the stairs in the form of another dwarf, and three henchmen. One of the henchmen is the same individual in the boiled leather breastplate who run up stairs at the beginning of the combat. The other two henchmen are more heavily armoured wearing chain shirts. The dwarf is identical in appearance to other already felled by Saab. Rondo pushes forward to engage and hold the enemy reinforcements on the stairs. The two henchmen in chain jump the balustrade the dwarf barges though the balustrade splintering it.
The combat heats up again. The two henchmen in chain focus on Rondo. Saab engages the second dwarf. Edgaar ensures the first dwarf stays down. Aurin uses magic to inflict pain on one of Rondo's opponents. Before the battle is decided Saab considers taking a captive but Rondo says "We have no time for prisoners!". The party soon defeat the opponents in the common room. Half their opponents have fled, one back up stairs the rest out the back. The other half lie dead, dying or seriously wounded. The party go upstairs where they hope to find Tellius and Lucien.
Upstairs Tellius detects someone in the corridor outside their room. They can hear him thumping on a nearby door calling out "Hazard! Hazard!". Lucien puts his lock picks to good use again and the door is quickly unlocked. The pair step out into the corridor and Tellius quickly strikes down the lone henchman. The rest of the party emerge from the top of the stairs to join Tellius and Lucien. The party quickly share news of their respective exploits then proceed to search the rest of the upper floor While Edgaar keeps watch over the front of the building from an upper window and Saab keeps an eye on the stairs.
Lucien is required to pick the locks of two other rooms. They are both similar in layout to the first room Lucien and Tellius entered. The occupant of one of the rooms appears to have fled leaving an open chest. The other rooms locked chest yields to Lucien's lock-picks and delivers three carrier pigeon messages and another pouch of coins which Lucien adds to the stash inside his tunic. Another two rooms appear to be mercenary common rooms each with three beds and a foot locker containing mundane items. Before getting around to investigating the last upstairs room a shout is heard from out front of the inn. "City watch!". Edgaar reports that he sees no sign of the watch. At the same time Tellius notices the door to the last room open a crack and then suddenly shut again. Tellius points this out to Rondo who charges and rams the door. The door opens slightly but there is obviously a heavy object blocking it from the inside. A man voice screams from inside the room. "Go away! I didn't do anything! Leave me alone!". Rondo ignores the pleas and repeatedly rams the door until the opening is wide enough for him to force his way into the room. In the room is an unarmoured man holding a broadsword. The man continues to plea. "Leave me alone. I haven't done anything." Rondo accuses him of being a slaver and attacks. The man tries to parry Rondo's strikes but does not himself attack.
Soon booted feet can be heard out the front of the inn. From his vantage point at a second floor window Edgaar confirms that the city watch have arrived. Lucien and Tellius head for the opening in the roof planing to leave unnoticed by that route. Rondo continues to attack the remaining individual in the upper floor room while the rest of the party bolt down stairs with the intention of evading the watch.
Edgaar, Saab and Aurin bound down the stairs into the common room to find two members of the city watch just inside the front door surveying the destruction. Immediately upon seeing the three emerge down the stairs the two guards level their spears and order them to halt. The three react by leaping off the edge of the remaining stairs and dashing for the rear exit. The watch move to stop them. Edgaar is first off the stairs and eludes the watch by diving and tumbling past them and disappearing under the curtained doorway leading into a backroom. Aurin also avoids the spear thrusts of the watch and disappears into the back room. Unfortunately Saab is stuck in the leg by a watchman's spear as he tries to evade them and falls to the ground. An instant later the curtained doorway separating the common room from the back room is lit up by a blindingly bright flash followed by the screams of Edgaar and Aurin.
Upstairs Tellius and Lucien drag a table to the center of the room with the hole in the roof and scramble into the roof space. Lucien is the first to emerge from the rooftop. When he is halfway out of the the hole in the roof Lucien spots a figure in the deep shadows of the rooftop on the other side of the alley. Assuming it is the mysterious K Lucien proceeds without concern. An heartbeat later a crossbow bolt slams into Lucien's chest, knocking him back into the roof space. In the dark of the roof space Tellius does his best to access Lucien's injury and bandage his wound.
Rondo is unable to quickly dispatch the remaining opponent. He reluctantly disengages the combat and goes down to the common room where he is challenged by the two watchmen. Rondo tries to bluff his way past them but the watchmen threaten to spear him unless he discards his weapons and surrenders to him. Rondo is taken captive. More watchmen and an old man soon arrive at the Broken Rudder. An unconscious Edgaar and Aurin are dragged into the common room. The prisoners hands are bound. The old man points to Rondo "That's him. He barged into the inn and started it." The commander of the watch orders the rest of inn searched. The old man also warns the commander that some of the prisoners may be sorcerers. The commander orders the prisoners gagged. The individual Rondo was fighting in the upstairs room is escorted down stairs by a pair of watchmen all the while protesting his innocence. When he sees Rondo amongst the prisoners he points him out. "That's the guy! He broke into my room and tried to kill me!" The commander says "Tell it to the judge." and then orders him also bound and gagged.
Up in the dark roof space Tellius and Lucien can hear watchmen searching the upper floor. With Lucien badly injured and the threat of another crossbow bolt awaiting anyone who tries to exit via the roof Lucien and Tellius hide in the roof-space. They both soon realise that it is just a matter of time before they are captured. Having once already been deprived of his money by captives Lucien rummages through he recently acquired loot and by the weight and feel in the darkness identifies 10 gold coins and swallows them! Tellius quickly reads the collection of parchments and book taken from the rooms, using his supernatural powers to see the writing in the dark.
Down in the common room the old man whispers something to the watch commander. The commander immediately orders the roof space searched. Tellius and Lucien are discovered and surrender but leave the documents and book in the roof-space. Lucien and Tellius are bound, gagged and deposited with the rest of the prisoners. The old man leaves. Another member of the city watch arrives and reports to the commander about murders at a nearby inn, the Rope and Spike. After finishing the report the watchman notices Tellius and stares at him for some time before telling the commander that he (Tellius) matches the description of the murderer. The watchman is sent to retrieve a witness of the murder at the Rope and Spike. A short time later a woman is escorted into the common room and confirms that Tellius is the person she saw murder people at the other inn.
An ancient man dressed in scholarly robes arrives and advises the commander to fix helmets to all the prisoners. The prisoners are then marched off to the city watch house and locked in the dungeons, still bound and gagged and helmeted. The ancient man instructs the gags to be removed from all but Aurin and Saab and the helmets to be removed from all but Tellius. The prisoner are watched closely by guards throughout the night.
